WA CoastOriginally uploaded by theclimbergirl I took a mini vacation last week and headed out to the Washington Coast for a little intro to backpacking with my new roomie and all around badass girl Teresa. We hiked in from the Ozette Ranger Station by headlamp and got about an hour and a half of sleep [...]

It's been a strange winter, but I'm starting to come out from my hibernation. Only it hasn't been hibernation... it's been a strange experience in constant motion for the last few months... very littl ...

A few weeks ago, my friend Peter raised a question about the strange questions people type into search engines that result in traffic to websites, and that lead me and another friend, Steph to actually open up our logs. It makes me giggle on the rare occasion that I look my search engine referrers, since there are a lot of pretty predictable se ...

A climbergirl on skis

For those of you who know how I've always felt about skiing -- terrified of the sport, and pretty sure that if I ever strapped skis to my feet I'd wind up perilously injured -- this might come as a surprise. For those of you who previously didn't know those feelings, it comes as a surprise in another ...

I'm home! I got into Seattle after the long trip home from Kathmandu a couple of days ago, for some time with my parents and sister, then came home to Kitsap yesterday. Everyone's anxious for the trip report, but that has three complications:

  1. I have literally hundreds of photos to go through. Here's a taste of what I'm up against, just taking into account pictures from our quick trip down:

  2. ...

I'm just about to hit "publish post" on a little photo trip report from this weekend, but I'm multitasking tonight. Specifically, I'm washing dishes, unpacking from my last trip, doing laundry, packing for my next trip, recovering from getting my first round of vaccinations for out-of-US-travel (more on that next week), paying bills, cleaning my apartment, crafting an expedition plan for my next big project -- Mount Gear -- in my livin ...

My Climbing Life, a climbing-light installment

It's been a funny week. I've been alternating between the highs of meeting fantastic folks in the climbing community and outdoor biz since I've been actively trying to get out of my shell and build those relationships, and the lows of discouraging or frustrating experiences related to some of those efforts. I prefer to focus on the positive, but if this sounds a wee bit down, it's just 'cause this week hasn't been all highs. And, did I mention ...

Wowsa. It's been a long time since I did a "not climbing" post... but I guess now's as good a time as any. I also need to do an "in the gym" update... but will try to get to that later this week. Maybe this is all a way of managing my sadness that I'm missing a Smith trip this weekend... sigh... I've been told by friends that single people are supposed to have three (or five, depending on who you talk to) fun a ...

Folks - the blog's going to be in a state of flux for awhile. I happened to check it from a very rare opportunity to sit down at a PC and my template wasn't displaying the actual blog content. Sigh. I wonder how long folks on PCs using Firefox have been seeing all my widgets but none of my content... So - for now, it's a default template until I can make some time to really dig in and fix stuff. So, if you notice some technical d ...
